DID YOU KNOW?

The different forms of land occupation and use of natural resources define over time the fate of ecosystems and millions of species that sustain life on Earth. THE CREATION OF PROTECTED AREAS IS A STRATEGY TO PRESERVE NATURAL ECOSYSTEMS AND MAINTAIN THE CONNECTIVITY BETWEEN THEM.

The fragmentation of environments changes the composition of the original space, severely affecting the species that live there. ECOLOGICAL CORRIDORS MINIMIZE THE CONSEQUENCES OF ISOLATION, contributing to the continuous search for food and the reproduction of species, also facilitating the exchange of genes, fundamental for the maintenance of diversity.

The Cerrado is not just made up of trees and shrubs. There are lots of herbs and subshrubs too! IT IS ESTIMATED THAT THE DIVERSITY OF HERBS AND SMALL BUSHES IN THE CERRADO IS SEVEN TIMES GREATER THAN THAT OF TREES AND BUSHES.

ENVIRONMENTAL CRIMES LAW No. 9,605, of February 12, 1998, PROVIDES SEVERE PUNISHMENT FOR THOSE WHO CAUSE A FIRE, subject to fines and even imprisonment, depending on the consequences of their acts.

FIRE MAY BE CRIMINAL, ACCIDENTAL OR NATURAL. Some examples are the burning of pastures, vandalism, inconsequential pranks, balloons, candles in religious rituals, bonfires, breaking electricity cables and burning garbage. The rays can cause fires, but as they arise in the rainy season and the rains put out the fire, this phenomenon is uncommon. That means there's no excuse: THE HUMAN IS, IN FACT, THE MAIN CAUSER OF FOREST FIRE.

This Park shelters several species and a rich wild fauna and these species, naturally, find their own food in the environment in which they live. FEEDING WILD ANIMALS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGE, causing them to lose one of the basic principles for their survival – the search for food.

In addition to protecting native fauna and flora, THIS PARK WAS CREATED TO PROTECT ITS SPRINGS, WHICH GUARANTEE QUALITY WATER SUPPLY FOR THE METROPOLITAN REGION OF BELO HORIZONTE. And to keep these springs protected, tourist activities in or near waterways are not allowed.

ROADKILLS ARE A SERIOUS THREAT TO WILD FAUNA AND CAN BE AVOIDED BY RESPECTING SPEED LIMITS. When you see an animal trying to cross a road, reduce your speed and take the opportunity to contemplate this unique moment.

GARBAGE PRODUCED INSIDE THE PARK MUST BE DISPOSED OF IN THE AVAILABLE GARBAGE BASKETS OR, failing that, be taken to another CORRECT DESTINATION. When we dispose of our garbage improperly, it can be taken to watercourses, it can be ingested by wild animals or take years to decompose in the environment. The minimum impact on the environment represents a lot for the conservation of the Park.

SOME HUMAN ACTIONS CAN AFFECT THE CYCLE AND WATER SUPPLY. Deforestation reduces evapotranspiration and affects rainfall; soil sealing prevents seepage; increasing water consumption decreases the volume of water available for evaporation. Not to mention that groundwater contamination means less drinking water for everyone.

The park's rich biodiversity is one of its greatest assets. Many species only occur here and others are in danger of disappearing. THE COLLECTION OF PLANTS, SEEDS, FLOWERS OR FIREWOOD IS A GREAT THREAT TO BIODIVERSITY. IN THE SAME WAY, TRYING TO TOUCH OR CHASING WILDLIFE can cause them great stress and can lead to attacks. Help preserve the park's riches.

ANIMALS INTRODUCED TO A PROTECTED AREA cause imbalances and loss of biodiversity, for several reasons. THEY CAN ATTACK AND KILL NATIVE SPECIES, DESTROY NESTS, CAUSE HABITAT CHANGES, AND INTRODUCE DISEASES for which native species have no defense.

WHEN YOU'RE ON A TRACK, TAKE CARE TO KEEP IT IN GOOD CONDITION SO THE NEXT VISITOR HAS A RICH AND SAFE EXPERIENCE LIKE YOURS. Do not go off the trails, because in addition to the risk of getting lost, you avoid unnecessary impact on the natural environment. Try not to make noise, as this increases your chances of encountering wild animals.

ONE WAY TO DISCUSS OPINIONS AND EXCHANGE IDEAS TO RESOLVE CONFLICTS DIRECTLY AFFECTING THIS PARK IS TO PARTICIPATE IN OR COLLABORATE WITH ITS ADVISORY BOARD. We can play our role as citizens by raising problems and looking for ways to solve them, and participation in Councils is a great way.

PROTECTED AREAS are important because they PROTECT THE SOIL, maintain the stability of the slopes and prevent erosion processes.

PROTECTED AREAS are important because they contribute to maintaining the WEATHER BALANCE AND AIR QUALITY.

PROTECTED AREAS are important because they PROTECT WATER RESOURCES, contributing to the quantity and quality of water and springs.

PROTECTED AREAS are important because THEY HOST AND PROTECT A DIVERSITY OF ECOSYSTEMS AND SPECIES OF ENDEMIC AND ENDANGERED FAUNA AND FLORA.

PROTECTED AREAS are important because they are home to SPECIES THAT MAY BE IMPORTANT TO HUMANITY, such as medicinal plants.

PROTECTED AREAS are important because they are natural areas of GREAT VALUE FOR RESEARCH, LEISURE, TOURISM, EDUCATION AND CULTURE.

The protected areas maintain one of the last remnants of conserved areas still present in our country. Therefore, when visiting this park, ENJOY THE BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPES AND CONTEMPLATE THE DIVERSITY OF PLANTS AND

ANIMALS. Practice observing these living beings in their essence and TAKE HOME GOOD MEMORIES.
